" The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in times of comfort, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy"
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
"For there is always light.
If only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it"
Amanda Gorman
These quotes seemed appropriate given that we acknowledged Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday and and we saw his legacy carried on in the recitation of Amanda Gorman at yesterday's Presidential Inauguration. These quotes also make me think of all of you. You have definitely not been teaching in comfort this year. This year has challenged us all. You have risen to meet every challenge as professionals, and for that I am grateful and our families are grateful. Through it all, you have continued to be brave enough to see the light. Next month, as you know is Black History Month. Below is a resource you can consider using that focuses on Ms. Gorman's poem. You do not have to use it, but please find a way to celebrate Black History Month with your students. If you have any ideas you would like to share, please comment below.
