Kids on campus?! Relax- Not yet.

Staff,

You continue to amaze me! As I overhear you patiently answering student questions and being twice as animated so that your enthusiasm breaks through the computer screens, I am reminded, yet again, that you are the best in the business. There is definitely an art to translating through a computer screen. It is almost necessary to be nicer than nice and louder than loud and our face is being watched in a way it never is in the classroom.  So eye rolls are not an option. 😁

Some of you may have watched the Governor's press conference yesterday, and if you didn't you have probably heard that Governor Cooper has give school districts the flexibility return to in person schooling for K-5 students. Important to note, is that Wake County has not announced a decision as to when, if, or in what capacity we will return to in person schooling. The goal is for the county to bring students back in some capacity by the end of the first quarter, but again, nothing has been decided yet. The School Board will meet next week and this will most likely be the topic. As discussions begin regarding a return to school, I want to just say that, although there will be questions and logistics to figure out, please don't let this stress you out. Steve and I will work on the logistics and communication and where possible, will get your feedback on things as we have tried to do throughout. In the meantime, you just need to continue to do the amazing job you are doing building relationships, engaging your students, and minding the health and safety protocols while in the building.

Cut to...

Gentle Reminder about masks (and voting):

As of July 14, 2020 North Carolina requires* a face covering of your choice for all central office staff, school staff, adult visitors, and K-12 students at all times, including:

  • inside school buildings and anywhere on school grounds, including outside, unless you are by yourself in an enclosed room with the door shut
  • while traveling on buses, vendor transportation or other WCPSS vehicles
  • all WCPSS work sites
  • even when 6 feet or more apart from other individuals

Face Coverings Breaks

Employees may remove their face coverings if they are alone in an enclosed room with the door shut.

  • Should remain more than 6 feet from the door, so if someone enters the room, they will still be socially distanced
  • Should post a sign on the door instructing individuals to knock and wait to be admitted into the room. This allows the employee time to put on their face covering before an individual enters the room.

Another parent letter recognizing the great work of our staff!

"Hello Ms. Jahromi,

Following curriculum night and the Istation assessment this morning, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of your diligent work and patience to get the school year off to a great start.  Your dedication/preparation shows, and I am thankful that Krista is in your class.  While we would much prefer to be "in class" with you at GHE, you have made virtual learning structured enough to feel like a real school day.

Kudos to you, all the 3rd grade teachers, and the administration on making this difficult start as painless as possible."

Way to go!!

Happy Mother's Day! PLT Part III

Moms have certainly gotten a taste of what you do, but let's face it, you get to experience some part of being a mom every day, whether you have your own children or not. You nurture and encourage all of your students. Every year the Cary Chamber of Commerce sponsors and award for a teacher at each school in Cary. It is called Honor a Teacher. This year, I opened it up to all of our parents and we received more nominations then we ever have. There are so sincere and heartfelt. We had to narrow it down to the 5 teachers who had the most nominations and the finalist are ... Kathy Harrington Cindy Mangus Christianne Blasko Kelsey Burleson Meghan Patterson We are so proud of all of these ladies. I feel like it would be a waste if all of you did not get to see the wonderful things that parents said about you. Friday afternoon, I was able to pull the raw data and I will put them in your boxes for you to enjoy.  Here are some highlights: "Mrs. Arbour has really been a great support d...

So Many Exciting things happening at GHE!

What a great week! Soon almost all of us will have our first vaccinations and we can see some light at the end of this tunnel. Let's pay it forward by helping whoever we can to navigate the vaccination process.  We are all weary of the masking and the sanitizer and the distancing, but we can power through anything with such a short time until Spring Break (28 days but who's counting). These are the times when random acts of kindness go a long way. If you are having a good day- bring someone along with you!  Coffee and chocolate are surefire hits with most!  We have so much to celebrate here at GHE. The weather is only going to get nicer, planning for our Outdoor Learning Space is well underway and we have AMAZING TEACHERS AND STAFF! Story night was a huge success with over 120 students tuning in to hear Mr. Denman read an entire book in his Elmo voice, and to hear Ms. Graner and I read aloud in our normal voices. It was very fun! ...
