Still One!

Happy Weekend!

These past couple of weeks we have had to focus on the logistics of bringing students back on Monday. However, we have not forgotten you "Virtual Teachers". You are rocking it every day! As students begin in plan B, it is time for us to come back together as a whole school community. I want to make sure that we don't begin to think of ourselves as two schools. We are still tasked with creating a cohesive and consistent learning environment for all students. This is a challenge we can only meet working as a team. PLTs will still meet together and can ask the question "How does this look for teachers teaching in concurrent environments, and how does it look fully virtual? If you are teaching virtually, you might still have ideas for your plan B colleagues and vice versa. We are in this together! You each have incredible talents and working together GHE is unstoppable. #weareone.

  1. I'm excited for Monday! I'm so glad that we can ease into this and figure out the kinks before we expect a "fuller house", whenever that may be. A special shout out to Plan B teachers for being on the front line and connecting with your at-home cohorts all at the same time! And to rockstars and specialists for figuring out how to be in 3 places at the same time! To virtual teachers for keeping the morale up and making your classes fun & exciting every day!

Happy Mother's Day! PLT Part III

Moms have certainly gotten a taste of what you do, but let's face it, you get to experience some part of being a mom every day, whether you have your own children or not. You nurture and encourage all of your students. Every year the Cary Chamber of Commerce sponsors and award for a teacher at each school in Cary. It is called Honor a Teacher. This year, I opened it up to all of our parents and we received more nominations then we ever have. There are so sincere and heartfelt. We had to narrow it down to the 5 teachers who had the most nominations and the finalist are ... Kathy Harrington Cindy Mangus Christianne Blasko Kelsey Burleson Meghan Patterson We are so proud of all of these ladies. I feel like it would be a waste if all of you did not get to see the wonderful things that parents said about you. Friday afternoon, I was able to pull the raw data and I will put them in your boxes for you to enjoy.  Here are some highlights: "Mrs. Arbour has really been a great support d...

So Many Exciting things happening at GHE!

What a great week! Soon almost all of us will have our first vaccinations and we can see some light at the end of this tunnel. Let's pay it forward by helping whoever we can to navigate the vaccination process.  We are all weary of the masking and the sanitizer and the distancing, but we can power through anything with such a short time until Spring Break (28 days but who's counting). These are the times when random acts of kindness go a long way. If you are having a good day- bring someone along with you!  Coffee and chocolate are surefire hits with most!  We have so much to celebrate here at GHE. The weather is only going to get nicer, planning for our Outdoor Learning Space is well underway and we have AMAZING TEACHERS AND STAFF! Story night was a huge success with over 120 students tuning in to hear Mr. Denman read an entire book in his Elmo voice, and to hear Ms. Graner and I read aloud in our normal voices. It was very fun! ...

Kids on campus?! Relax- Not yet.

Staff,  You continue to amaze me! As I overhear you patiently answering student questions and being twice as animated so that your enthusiasm breaks through the computer screens, I am reminded, yet again, that you are the best in the business. There is definitely an art to translating through a computer screen. It is almost necessary to be nicer than nice and louder than loud and our face is being watched in a way it never is in the classroom.  So eye rolls are not an option. 😁 Some of you may have watched the Governor's press conference yesterday, and if you didn't you have probably heard that Governor Cooper has give school districts the flexibility return to in person schooling for K-5 students. Important to note, is that Wake County has not announced a decision as to when, if, or in what capacity we will return to in person schooling. The goal is for the county to bring students back in some capacity by the end of the first quarter, but again, nothing has been deci...
