Technology- friend or foe? (Depends on the day!)

Aaaah technology- friend and at times terrible enemy. We have probably never relied on it so much as we are right now. You all have been amazing at embracing and learning all of this new and sharing your ideas with each other. When technology lets you down, don't be afraid to make adjustments. Many times it is a quick fix and you can just go in and out and be fine, but when it is more involved or you feel like you need to deal with. You might consider having students have a book with them at the computer and then if and when tech fails, you can have them take a 5 or 10 minute reading break while you get things sorted out.

You have probably heard that the county is considering approving an asynchronous day a week for students. We dipped our toe in the water as we considered doing two three days a week as asynchronous as science and social studies. Please know that until we are sure that the asynchronous day is a go with the county, that option is still on the table for your team. It is not a requirement, but it is an option if you need or want it. Just make sure that it is communicated to your students. Tuesday is another WCPSS Board Meeting and we should know more then.  In the meantime, please enjoy your weekend. Use the workday to get your head back above water. Please finish the district required trainings if you have not already.

Know that you are all so appreciated for everything you are doing right now and always!

Happy Mother's Day! PLT Part III

Moms have certainly gotten a taste of what you do, but let's face it, you get to experience some part of being a mom every day, whether you have your own children or not. You nurture and encourage all of your students. Every year the Cary Chamber of Commerce sponsors and award for a teacher at each school in Cary. It is called Honor a Teacher. This year, I opened it up to all of our parents and we received more nominations then we ever have. There are so sincere and heartfelt. We had to narrow it down to the 5 teachers who had the most nominations and the finalist are ... Kathy Harrington Cindy Mangus Christianne Blasko Kelsey Burleson Meghan Patterson We are so proud of all of these ladies. I feel like it would be a waste if all of you did not get to see the wonderful things that parents said about you. Friday afternoon, I was able to pull the raw data and I will put them in your boxes for you to enjoy.  Here are some highlights: "Mrs. Arbour has really been a great support d...

So Many Exciting things happening at GHE!

What a great week! Soon almost all of us will have our first vaccinations and we can see some light at the end of this tunnel. Let's pay it forward by helping whoever we can to navigate the vaccination process.  We are all weary of the masking and the sanitizer and the distancing, but we can power through anything with such a short time until Spring Break (28 days but who's counting). These are the times when random acts of kindness go a long way. If you are having a good day- bring someone along with you!  Coffee and chocolate are surefire hits with most!  We have so much to celebrate here at GHE. The weather is only going to get nicer, planning for our Outdoor Learning Space is well underway and we have AMAZING TEACHERS AND STAFF! Story night was a huge success with over 120 students tuning in to hear Mr. Denman read an entire book in his Elmo voice, and to hear Ms. Graner and I read aloud in our normal voices. It was very fun! ...

Kids on campus?! Relax- Not yet.

Staff,  You continue to amaze me! As I overhear you patiently answering student questions and being twice as animated so that your enthusiasm breaks through the computer screens, I am reminded, yet again, that you are the best in the business. There is definitely an art to translating through a computer screen. It is almost necessary to be nicer than nice and louder than loud and our face is being watched in a way it never is in the classroom.  So eye rolls are not an option. 😁 Some of you may have watched the Governor's press conference yesterday, and if you didn't you have probably heard that Governor Cooper has give school districts the flexibility return to in person schooling for K-5 students. Important to note, is that Wake County has not announced a decision as to when, if, or in what capacity we will return to in person schooling. The goal is for the county to bring students back in some capacity by the end of the first quarter, but again, nothing has been deci...
